Fast Trains for Granville & Lidcombe
The 2017 timetable removed T1 Western Line express trains from Granville and Lidcombe, with services replaced by the slower T2 Parramatta Line. The 2024 timetable is a missed opportunity to restore T1 Western Line express trains for Granville and Lidcombe.
Result of the October 2024 Train Timetable
✅ Restore Inner West Line - Liverpool via Regents Park (T3 Line) - direct train from Regents Park/Berala to City Circle (now limited stops instead of all stations pre-2013).
❌ Missed opportunity to restore peak Express Trains at Lidcombe (T1 Western Line) removed in 2017 despite available capacity on existing Sydney Trains Network (T1 trains from Schofields).
❌ Missed opportunity for 4 additional trains at Lidcombe to Central (T6 trains from Bankstown don't need to end at Lidcombe but continue) through restoring Bankstown to City via Regents Park/Lidcombe (removed in 2013) using current capacity on the current Sydney Trains Network.
❌ Missed opportunity to restore fast Lidcombe - Olympic Park - Strathfield - Central peak express trains on the Sydney Trains Network (removed in 2013).
How we can bring back T1 Express Trains at Lidcombe
▶️ The "Schofields" Plan to restore T1 Western Line peak Express Trains at Lidcombe. Read more about the "Schofields" plan and available Sydney Trains Network capacity at www.restoreinnerwestline.org.au/fast-trains-for-granville-lidcombe
▶️ Digital Signalling Upgrades for Western Sydney to be fast tracked. Sign petition at www.actionnetwork.org/letters/fast-track-signalling-upgrades-for-sydney-trains
Signalling upgrades on Sydney Trains (as currently rolled out on the T8 Airport Line and T4 Illawarra Line) can deliver the same number of trains per hour as Metro.
Signalling upgrades cost less than Metro and are delivered faster without major shutdown of existing lines, but Metro costs billions to the taxpayer and requires years of construction shutdowns. Signalling upgrades beats Metro.

T1 Western Line Service Levels
Number of Express Trains for Cumberland LGA (and surrounding stations) from 2011 - 2024 (current timetable)
In 2011, Granville had 9 express trains per hour (AM Peak) and Lidcombe had 7 express trains per hour (AM Peak). In 2013, both Granville and Lidcombe had service reductions to 4 express trains per hour.
But in 2017, ALL express trains were removed from Granville and Lidcombe (especially during peak).
